Welcome
to the
SanShin Academy of Martial Arts
The Sanshin Academy of Martial Arts is a private co-educational school supported
by private funds and student fees. The SanShin Academy of Martial Arts is
dedicated to the advancement of the Brother / Sisterhood of Martial Artists.
It's primary purpose is:
- To encourage and promote
the studies of the traditional teachings, history, philosophy, and theory
of the Chinese/Okinawan Martial Arts.
- To help the individual martial artist achieve his or her individual
goals to advance their knowledge of learning the Classical Martial Arts.
- To teach Ban Ying Ruan Karate as an art.

In Chinese the word “Ban”
means “half”, “Ying” means “hard”, “Ruan”
means “soft”, and “Karate” means “Chinese
Hand”. The half-hard and half-soft name defines the philosophy of
a unique martial art taught at the SanShin Academy of Martial Arts headed
by its founder Larry Byers. This martial art specializes in blending hardness
(external) and softness (internal) into a personal training that combines
strength with compassion to develop confidence, discipline, and respect
for others.
This philosophy is central in training the student’s body, mind, and
spirit. The practitioners of this art do not practice it for tournament
sparring or perform it for the entertainment of spectators. |
